Grant PhotOn Festival 2017
PhotOn Festival is consolidated in 2017 as a launcher of young talents of international photojournalism. The festival reaches its seventh edition with important news: The growth in the number and the value of prizes, valued at € 9,000; The creation of a new thematic prize for Valencia as World’s Food Capital in 2017; The organization of free portfolios reviews for photographers with different levels and the participation of an international jury who will review all the works submitted to choose the 10 finalists.
In recent years, PhotOn Festival has become a major talent prescriber for its commitment to reward authors of any age and nationality who, even without a consolidated professional background, present solid and interesting works of documentary photo and photojournalism.
Through the Grant PhotOn Festival, up to 70 novel authors have had the opportunity to show their work to many editors and photography professionals. Furthermore, they have showed their multimedia in Photon Festival screenings and, if they have been winners, they have had the opportunity to be awarded with scholarships to participate in various international festivals thanks to the European promotion on thePhoto Europe Network, European network of photography festivals where PhotOn Festival is a founding member.
The seventh edition of the festival takes place thanks to the sponsorship of Cañada Blanch Foundation and the Centre Cultural La Nau. In 2017, PhotOn Festival Grant has the support of Olleros Abogados, La Imprenta GC, Quinua Real and One Shot Hotels and as collaborators and mediapartners with Ayuntamiento de Valencia, Metrovalencia and Cerveza Turia.
5 prizes, with 12,000 €
PhotOn Festival makes a great effort to improve year by year and it feel the professional success of the grant holders as their own success. The Grant PhotOn Festival 2017 is valued at € 9,000 (€ 3,000 more than the previous year), making it one of the most important grants in
Spain. In this edition, the 10 finalists of the PhotOn Festival Grant will be eligible for five prizes (one more than in 2016):
#OllerosAwardPhotOnGrant: The prize will be a cash contribution of 2,000 euros
made by the firm Olleros Abogados, SLP.
#EditorialAwardPhotOnGrant: The winner of the previous prize will also receive the
edition and production of a book printed by La Imprenta CG, which will be part of the
collection of books edited by PhotOn Festival.
#PHENAwardsPhotOnGrant: Photometria Festival (Ioannina, Greece) will select one of
the finalists to be part of its 2018 edition with an exhibition.
New #QuinuaRealAwardPhotOnGrant:
On the occasion of Valencia as World’s Food Capital in 2017 PhotOn Festival has created a
specific prize for the best documentary report on the food situation in the world. Quinua Real,
the sponsor of the prize, will award with 1,000€ a project that will raise awareness of the
importance of food and the risk situation in which we live and feed.
New #OneShotAwardPhotOnGrant:
The One Shot Hotels chain, whose philosophy has art and photography as a common link, will
award with 500€ to one of the final works of the PhotOn Grant as part of its effort for artistic
patronage linked to photography.
New #PremiMFPAjuntamentVLC: With the collaboration of Valencia’s City Council (Spain), this prize will grant the best professional work describing the main news occured in Valencia in 2016. Prize for professional photojournalists based in Valencia.
International jury to select the finalists
PhotOn Festival Grant 2017 has become an opportunity to reach the professional level and the
festival wants that each step brings the participants closer to their goals. That is why, to
support the best work from the germ of the grant, an international professional jury will see
each and every one of the works submitted.
Maria Mann, head of international relations for the EPA agency, recent member of the World
Press Photo jury team and Alexander Strecker, managing editor of LensCulture, one of the
world’s most prestigious publications on photography, will be the ones in charge of selecting
the 10 finalist works of 2017 after reviewing all the candidacies presented to the contest.
